poetry

i went into bt this morning and despite the fact that national poetry month is over (april) the kids are still working on memorizing poems. this is one of my favorite times of year at bt (and it always runs past april). to watch each kid stand up by themselves and recite a famous poet's work could melt anyone's heart (even if you don't have a heart, you would grow one, and then it would melt).

it also reminded me of one of my favorite contemporary poets/people who happens to have worked at bt not so long ago. i was looking for an opportunity to share this poem, because i think it's so friggin beautiful.

Question Poem #10

How do the blossoms blaze trails for the fruit
in such silence?

How is the peach born so plump
from that twig of a branch?

How do our words finally flower from our throats?

And if we hold them in our mouths a while first
will they sweeten?
