fruitcake

***please note that the title of this post, nor its contents have nothing to do with the urban dictionary definition of this term. it is in no way related to a hateful word.

i don't know the entire story of  how this word came about in my family
but i know it is used, and was most likely created, by my 8 year old niece.

it is a verb: to fruitcake

it means to start over
like when you are having a bad day. maybe you did something bad, said something you wish you hadn't etc.
rather than dwelling on the mistake or the bad feeling, fruitcaking affords you another chance
a clean slate

like eating a fruitcake ...(?!)

some of us have an incredibly hard time letting go of a mistake, a bad mood, a bad fight. and while logic may tell us that no good will come of that furrowed brow and clenched teeth squeezng the joy out of an otherwise  perfectly good day, our feelings get in the way.

feelings are strong and run deep and usually have nothing to do with logic

nor does the fruitcake

and yet, it's pretty brilliant. thanks, little m-ita.
